Bayley leads para squad for pre-Games tune-up

World and European champion Will Bayley is included in a squad of 13

The para squad will compete in a test event in Tokyo ahead of this summer's Paralympics

World and European champion Will Bayley is included in a squad of 13 para table tennis players who will compete in a test event in Tokyo ahead of this summer's Paralympics.

The event will take place from August 25-29 and will give the squad a chance to familiarize themselves with the venue and conditions ahead of the Games, which begin on August 24.

Bayley, who won two gold medals at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio, is one of the most successful para table tennis players in the world.

He will be joined in the squad by fellow Rio medalists Rob Davies and Sue Gilroy, as well as a number of other top players.

The squad is as follows:

  • Aaron McKibbin
  • Ross Wilson
  • Megan Shackleton
  • Pauline Wilson
  • Kim Daybell
  • Billy Shilton

  • Joshua Stacey

The squad will be led by head coach Paul Drinkhall.

Drinkhall said: "This is a great opportunity for the squad to get a feel for the venue and conditions ahead of the Paralympics.

"We are all very excited about the Games and we are confident that we can perform well."
