Everton docked 10 points by Premier League

The Premier League has deducted 10 points from Everton for breaching financial rules.

The punishment is the heaviest ever handed down to a Premier League club and leaves Everton in 19th place in the table, just one point above the relegation zone.

The Premier League said in a statement that Everton had failed to provide "accurate financial information in relation to the club's profit and loss for the years ended 30 June 2017, 30 June 2018 and 30 June 2019."

The club has also been fined £30 million, which will be suspended for three years. If Everton breaches the regulations again during that time, the fine will be payable.

Everton said in a statement that it was "disappointed" with the decision and that it would be appealing.

The club said: "We have worked proactively with the Premier League throughout this process and provided all requested information. We are committed to operating in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Premier League and will continue to do so."

The Premier League said that it had "taken into account all relevant factors" when making its decision, including Everton's "historical financial information, its current financial position and its future financial prospects."

The decision is a major blow to Everton, who are now in a fight to avoid relegation. The club has not been relegated from the Premier League since 1951, but they are now in real danger of dropping down to the Championship.

Everton's next match is at home against Arsenal on Saturday. It will be a huge game for the club, who will be desperate to get back to winning ways and start climbing the table.
